A flagship centre for veterinary excellence

Improve International, Swindon

The opportunity

Improve International, a world leader in veterinary postgraduate training and education, needed to transform a vacant Swindon office into a specialist clinical excellence centre.

The new facility needed to support the technical and educational requirements of veterinary professionals and vet nurses, with dedicated wet lab practical training facilities and classroom spaces. At the same time, the environment needed to provide welcoming breakout and social areas where students and professionals could connect, collaborate and relax between sessions.

The challenge was to bring these very different requirements together within one cohesive environment — creating a facility that felt professional and highly technical while still being welcoming and comfortable.

The approach

Kerr Office Group took the project beyond a conventional workplace transformation, delivering a specialist training facility designed around the unique needs of veterinary education.

The spatial design carefully balanced technical and educational areas, incorporating classrooms, wet labs and an X-ray room alongside dedicated breakout and social spaces.

A key focus was creating a welcoming social hub. The large informal breakout area was designed to provide a modern café-style experience, giving users somewhere to meet, socialise and take time out between classes.

The result was an unusual combination of clinical functionality and hospitality-inspired design. By creating a coffee-shop atmosphere within a specialist clinical environment, Kerr delivered a distinctive facility that went beyond the original expectations for the project.

The impact

The completed facility has become a flagship site for Improve International, providing veterinary professionals with a state-of-the-art environment designed around learning, collaboration, comfort and wellbeing.

The open-plan layout has improved communication between departments and encouraged greater collaboration and teamwork. A variety of breakout seating areas, alongside dedicated wellbeing and relaxation spaces, also supports a more productive and efficient working environment.

The new centre has strengthened Improve International’s position as a leader in veterinary education while providing a platform for continued growth. The success of the project has also led to Improve International looking to continue its partnership with Kerr on future projects across the UK and Europe.
