Grant Engineering UK Swindon
The opportunity
As Grant UK continued to grow, the business needed a larger headquarters that could accommodate its expanding team, increasing product demand and specialist training requirements.
The move from Devizes to Swindon provided an opportunity to create a modern headquarters that would bring together office, warehouse and training facilities while improving the experience for employees, clients and visitors.
Sustainability was a fundamental part of the brief. Having recently achieved Net Zero Carbon certification for its business operations, Grant UK wanted its new workplace to support its carbon reduction programme while creating a modern, inclusive and biophilic environment.
Rather than constructing a new building, Grant UK chose to sustainably refurbish an existing industrial facility, reducing the emissions associated with a new build while giving the business the space it needed for future growth.
The approach
Kerr Office Group delivered the project as an end-to-end design and fit-out solution, carefully coordinating the transformation around Grant UK’s operational requirements.
The facility was designed to provide a dynamic workplace where employees could work, collaborate and socialise, alongside welcoming spaces for clients and guests. A high-end gym and fitness studio was introduced to support employee wellbeing, with extended opening hours allowing teams to use the facilities before or after work.
Sustainability was embedded throughout the project. Grant UK’s own biomass heating system provides heating and hot water, while 768 solar panels and storage batteries form part of a 303 kWp Solar PV system installed across the roof.
Technology and hybrid working were also considered from the outset. Kerr integrated audio-visual technology and digital signage throughout the office and Training Academy, allowing the facility to be fully operational from day one.
The project was delivered in phases to minimise disruption to Grant UK’s operations. The warehouse was handed back in an operational state in August, ahead of the wider office and Training Academy being completed in September. This required close coordination between the Grant UK and Kerr teams, particularly ahead of the company’s busy autumn heating season.
The impact
The completed headquarters has given Grant UK a larger, more sustainable facility that supports its current operations while providing room for future growth.
The expanded warehouse has improved logistics and enabled the business to respond more effectively to increasing demand for its sustainable heating products across the UK. The new workplace has also created a more engaging environment for employees, with dedicated wellness, social and collaborative facilities.
The Training Academy has become a major asset, providing a dedicated hub for learning and development and hosting installation partners from across the country. This supports Grant UK’s position as an industry leader while helping to advance sustainable heating practices across the UK.
The sustainability measures are also delivering a measurable operational benefit. The solar system is already meeting over 83% of the electricity demand for the main office and 91% for the Training Academy, while reducing reliance on the national grid.
Most importantly, the project has created a workplace that Grant UK can be proud of and that is designed to evolve with the business. The completed facility has even helped attract former employees back to the company following the relocation.
