Bechtle Manchester
The opportunity
Following Kerr Office Group’s successful work with Bechtle in Manchester, Bechtle approached Kerr to help create a new headquarters in Wiltshire that could support the company’s ambitious growth plans.
The first step was to understand exactly what Bechtle needed from its future workplace. Kerr carried out a feasibility study across a range of potential spaces before helping Bechtle secure a 21,000 sq ft premises in Chippenham.
The new headquarters needed to feel like a genuine upgrade for Bechtle’s people while creating an environment that reflected the company’s values of being connected, experienced and entrepreneurial. It also needed to encourage collaboration, support wellbeing and provide the flexibility required for a growing technology business.
The approach
The design was built around Bechtle’s people-centric philosophy, creating a workplace that combines functionality with a strong sense of identity.
At the heart of the scheme is a striking double-height social hub, complete with premium kitchen facilities, a bespoke coffee bar and comfortable soft furnishings. The space provides employees with an area to relax and connect away from their desks.
To support activity-based working, the design introduced soundproof meeting booths, informal huddle areas and flexible training spaces equipped with advanced AV technology. These spaces give employees greater choice in how and where they work, whether they need to collaborate, meet, focus or learn.
The fit-out was also designed to complement the existing Gensler-designed building. Industrial and natural materials were combined with subtle biophilic design elements, creating a contemporary workplace while respecting the architectural character of the building.
The impact
The completed headquarters provides Bechtle with a technology-focused and wellbeing-led workplace designed to support its people and future growth.
The combination of collaborative areas, flexible training spaces, quiet meeting booths and a dedicated social hub gives employees a wider range of environments to suit different working styles and activities.
The design also creates a stronger sense of connection to Bechtle’s identity, while the use of natural materials and biophilic elements contributes to a more welcoming and engaging workplace.
